Just the Goods is a small-scale handmaking operation seeking applicants for the position of Shipper + Production Assistant to join the Owner in the production and distribution of small-batch plant-based cruelty-free skin care products.
The employee will be responsible for the weekly packing and shipping of Just the Goods orders to clients across Canada, the US, and other countries worldwide. This employee will also assist production by maintaining equipment and the work space, supporting the receiving and storage of raw materials and equipment, packing and labeling finished products, and assisting with occasional research as requested via internet and/or telephone.
Duties and responsibilities
Shipping (~45%)
- carefully pack and weigh parcels
- generate related paperwork and e-postage
- give outbound parcels to / receive inbound parcels from relevant couriers
- deposit parcels with Canada Post and/or UPS if needed; receive parcels from Canada Post if needed
Maintenance (~25%)
- maintain a clean work space (i.e. wipe counters, sweep and mop floors, collect recycling, etc.)
- wash and put away production equipment
Production: (~20%)
- label and stock finished products; safety-seal products for retailers as requested
- package and label product samples
- decant raw materials into production ready quantities
Administration: (~10%)
- receive incoming orders, cross-check packing slips, and stock inventory
- maintain inventory on website where applicable
- monitor stock to assist with inventory management
- conduct research via internet and/or telephone as requested
The successful candidate should possess:
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- careful attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent standards
- ability to work independently and to prioritize tasks
- proficiency in Microsoft Windows and navigating web-based apps – on job training will be provided to use Shippo, Shopify Shipping, and Quickbooks; previous experience with these online apps considered an asset
- ability to lift up to 20 kg (incoming and outgoing parcels, as well as boxes and jugs of raw materials and/or packaging)
- a current drivers license considered an asset
- a pleasant attitude toward the very friendly cat that lounges in the lobby, as well as a gentle ability to ensure she doesn’t sneak her way into the work space when entering/exiting
Hours of work
- 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday
- Starting August 14, 2017 or shortly thereafter
- 2 weeks vacation after the first year of employment. Please note Just the Goods will be closed December 27 – 29, 2017.
Environment
- Just the Goods is located slightly north of the Exchange District; on-site parking available
- Just the Goods offers a quiet work environment with limited external interactions; podcast/audio-book listening on headphones during work hours is welcome provided it does not interfere with tasks
- Attire: comfy casual (yes, leggings are pants); clean indoor shoes required; work gloves provided as required; please secure hair/beard to prevent contamination of products/orders
- Please note that Just the Goods’ production facility is not barrier free; entry through the front door requires 3 steps and entry through the back door involves 2 steps + access through a manual rolling gate
