Just the Goods Newsletter – Spring 2017

Hello everyone,

I hope you are enjoying signs of spring wherever you are, and that you’re finding fun in scheduling summer plans!

As you might already know, I like to send newsletters three or four times per year when I have something new and/or notable to share.

The first piece of news is that – in a few short days – Just the Goods will be 8 years old, and I can hardly believe it! From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for being part of this thrilling journey, which is forever taking new and exciting turns. Evolving from a hobby, to a part-time endeavour, to a full-fledged creation with its very own life force, I can’t help being caught aback given that I’ve generally made decisions about JTG quite spontaneously. I’m not entirely sure what direction Just the Goods will take in the future, but being someone who has never lasted longer than 14 months in any job I’ve ever held (*lol*) it strikes me that – for the first time – it’s important to start making plans. It is no longer possible for one person to keep up with all of the orders received each hour of each day, but I want to retain my commitment to handmaking on a human scale, so it’s time to start thinking about how to ensure this without slowing production/shipping time. Thank you for presenting me with this fascinating challenge – I am eager to take it on as Just the Goods moves towards the next 8 years, and beyond.

Apart from this big news, today’s message will be brief in that I mostly want to let you know I’ll be taking a week away at the end of May to recharge my batteries, and to give you an update on recent fundraising efforts and a new collaboration. Please find details below =-)

Warmly,
Milena

Upcoming Temporary Closure

Although I’ve managed to sneak a few days off since the end of February, 12+ hour days are making me sleeeeeepy *lol*. In order to recharge my batteries a little, Just the Goods will be closed May 26 – June 1. Orders placed by May 19 will be shipped by May 26. Orders placed May 20 – June 2 will begin shipping June 7 – 9, with additional batches shipping the following week as quickly as I can manage. I won’t be online during this absence but look forward to replying to any messages when I return. Thanks!

Fundraising for Standing Rock a Success!

Liz of The Granola Goat and I would like to thank you for making our collaborative fundraising effort to support the Water Protectors at Sacred Stone Camp a success – with your interest in Forest Spirit, we were able to raise a total of $534 USD (~$729 CAD). The encampment was terminated in February, but the Indigenous Coalition at Standing Rock continues fighting for all the water, earth, air, and all living things and is calling for global intersectional resistance to fossil fuels and fascism through long-term movement building. I absolutely agree that this is a fight for the long haul, and I’m so grateful to all of you that we could make this modest contribution together as part of the many other actions I imagine many of us are undertaking at other levels. That being said, if you can give more, please do by visiting sacredstonecamp.org, or contributing to other Indigenous led resistance movements in your area.

The image below is of a print by Nicolas Lampert, which is available for sale at Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative, a decentralized network of 30 artists committed to social, environmental, and political engagement. It’s pretty awesome and I thought I’d share it with you ❤

Liz and I are looking forward to collaborating on future fundraising projects, and are already concocting something we hope to release in June. Please keep in touch with us via social media to find out more.

Say Hello to Fat Lye Soap Co.!

I love collaborating with other handmakers by offering their awesome work at justthegoods.net. Over the past year, I’ve gotten to know Jennifer Chung of Fat Lye Soap Co., based in Winnipeg and we finally took our Instagram friendship to the next level and hung out in real life. That was super fun on its own, but imagine my smile when I opened a great big box of beautiful handmade soap that I can now share with you. Fat Lye Soap Co., features a range of nourishing plant-based oils and beautiful botanical additives to create a soft, spa-like lather. Every detail is carefully considered, including eco-friendy packaging made from plantable seed paper! Just the Goods is currently offering 4 unique varieties, with a few more on the way. Check it out here.

New Product: Litha/Summer Solstice Ritual Bath and Lotion Set

In February I co-launched a springtime themed bath salt and lotion set with Canadian online retailer, Tiroir-Noir, designed to welcome the lighter half of the year by gathering our energies and bringing forth new passion and ideas into the world. The soak features dried strawberry, dried jasmine buds, chamomile essential oil and a drop of sunflower seed oil to bring in the light. The lotion features gentle honeysuckle attar. But, as the wheel of the year turns we’re moving toward summer and I’m excited about the plans I’ve been developing for Litha/Summer Solstice! The Ostara set will be available for only a few more days and I’ll be launching the Litha set soon! Stay tuned to Instagram and Facebook for details =-)

Just the Goods Newsletter – Winter/Spring 2017

Happy New Year!

However you decided to ring in the start of this new calendar year – surrounded by friends, or peacefully focused on quiet self-care – I hope it was exactly as you wished!

The past few months have been quite an exciting whirlwind for me, and I want to thank all of you for giving me amazing opportunities to meet you online or in person, and to provide you with handmade, cruelty-free, safe cosmetics. I’m so grateful for your interest and I look forward to keeping in touch with you as part of another wonderful year!

To those of you who placed orders while the lab was closed for year end, thank you! I will be working on those this week – the first batch of parcels requiring in-stock items only will ship out on January 4, and all other orders placed during the temporary closure will be handmade fresh this week and shipped out on January 11. Please enjoy!

As you might know, I like to send newsletters three or four times per year when I have something new and/or notable to share. Today’s message is short and sweet in that it seeks to mention two things: First, a heartfelt collaboration with another vegan skin care maker, The Granola Goat. Second, a quick head’s up about an upcoming temporary closure in February… please find details about both contained within.

Warmly,
Milena

Fundraising for Standing Rock

To support the valiant efforts of the Water Protectors at Standing Rock, Just The Goods and The Granola Goat have created Forest Spirit, a special and limited edition face mask combining the herbal and cultural value of yarrow and cedar. Water is life and we acknowledge that the struggle continues to protect all living creatures relying on fresh, clean water for survival. This is an important time of transition and allyship is needed as much now as ever.

#NoDAPL
We are donating all proceeds from the sale of Forest Spirit to Sacred Stone Camp knowing they will allocate to the fund with the most need: http://sacredstonecamp.org/donate/. With the recent approval of Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain and Enbridge’s Line 3 expansions in Canada, please note deeper resistance is needed here as well. Please visit Treaty Alliance Against Tar Sands Expansion’s website for more information: http://www.treatyalliance.org/. Just the Goods will donate $13.25 CAD per jar of Forest Spirit sold.

Yarrow
Micmac people, as well as ancient Greeks, regard yarrow for its ability to treat sprains by reducing bruising and swelling. In China, it is used to brighten the eyes and promote intelligence. Ancient Roman tradition believes yarrow is ruled by Venus and the element of water. Throughout Europe, yarrow continues to drive away negativity and represent love. The Navajo people consider it a sacred Life Medicine and Anishinaabe people value it for purification. The Teton Lakota people call yarrow “medicine for the wounded.” In the Victorian language of flowers, yarrow represents both war and healing. From the perspective of herbal medicine, it is known worldwide to rid the body of toxins through the provision of anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent and tonic benefits, and it can soothe irritated skin.

Cedar
In many cultures worldwide spanning from Cherokee to Ojibwe to Druids to Norse, cedar is connected with ancestors so it is used to drive away negative influences, cleanse, heal, and protect. It can also promote confidence and strength. From a skincare perspective, cedarwood essential oil it is an astringent and can reduce irritation through anti-inflammatory and antiseptic benefits, making it a positive complement to yarrow, and a wonderful choice for oily or problem skin.

Forest Spirit
In a base of kaolin clay, this mask is soothing, clarifying, and exfoliating. Each tin contains 28 g / approx 10-12 applications. Visit: https://justthegoods.net/products/forest-spirit-facial-mask-in-support-of-the-water-protectors-at-standing-rock for details!

Just the Goods Newsletter – Summer/Fall 2016

Exciting changes to US shipping, upcoming end-of-summer closure notice,
new limited edition product, and more!

Hello everyone,

Happy Summer! I hope you’re finding time to play in the sun, rest under trees, and watch plants and animals grow =-)

Summer/Fall 2016… Meep! No one wants to think about autumn quite yet, and it surely seems too soon for another newsletter, but I have *so* much to share and ultimately decided sending one extra communiqué this year will be worthwhile, especially for clients based in the US. Please read on for details…

Deepest thanks and best wishes always!
Milena

Shipping news for clients in the US

I am thrilled to announce that Just the Goods now ships to the US – from the US – via USPS, which means lower shipping rates for all US clients including access to flat rate shipping boxes (great for orders over 1 kg / 35 oz), and tracking + insurance automatically added to all parcels without additional cost or effort.

The first three weeks operating under this new procedure have been successful and, going forward, parcels will be driven from Winnipeg to Pembina (ND) every Thursday, excluding weeks when Just the Goods is closed, of course. Tracking numbers will be forwarded directly via USPS and shipping will now take an average of 1 – 4 days after mailing, instead of 10. Rush shipping from Canada (via Canada Post or UPS) is still available. Please enquire before making very time sensitive purchases.

This change has been a long time in the making – thank you for your patience while I assessed viability and found someone fully committed to driving three hours each week and clear customs at the border on my behalf 😉

Shipping news for local, national and other international clients

Those within Winnipeg who receive parcels via local courier will also experience a shipping-related change. Natural Cycle Courier closed operations after serving Winnipeg for 17 years, so I’ve worked out special rates with Ghost Rider Messenger, who is similarly able to deliver to all accessible locations within the Perimeter; however, delivery will now take place within 1 business day (most often on the same Thursday the parcel is picked up). The cost of local courier is now now $6.75 for any parcel under 1 kg to any address within the Perimeter with an accessible mailbox, safe drop location, or where someone is available during regular business hours to receive the parcel in person. Thank you!

Finally, shipping news for all other clients: Those in Canada may know that Canada Post has agreed to a 30 day extension on current labour negotiations, which means employees who work hard to maintain a well functioning, public network over such an expansive landmass will not fear being locked out of their jobs, nor will they need to take strike action at this time. As such, I am continuing to ship as usual to locations across Canada and around the world, with pleasure! Still, I have retained shipping by UPS as an available option on the website, for those who prefer it. Please be confident that I will not made arbitrary switches between carriers: if you choose Canada Post, I will ship with that method; likewise if you choose UPS. Thanks!

Upcoming Temporary Closure

My recent travels were fantastic – I came back invigorated and inspired, and I was blown away by the sheer volume of orders that arrived during my absence – thank you! In contrast, things quiet down a little in the summer, which I hope means that everyone is spending time outdoors having fun! And, knowing that things once again become wonderfully busy in September (and continue straight through until the end of May), I’ve learned that it’s a good idea to schedule rest and relaxation at the end of each summer.

As such, Just the Goods will be closed August 26 – September 3. Orders placed by Friday, August 19 will be mailed by August 25. Orders placed August 20 – September 3 will be handmade and shipped as quickly as possible thereafter. Orders involving in-stock items will be shipped on September 8 and all other orders will be shipped on September 15. I have decided to limit my access to email from August 27 to September 3 and will therefore reply to all messages when I return. Thanks!

New Product

It has been a while since I released a new product, and this one is unique in that I can only offer it as a very small batch, limited edition item.

Celebrating the height of summer, this facial mask features two of my favourite things: vibrant matcha and aromatic, home grown lavender!

Kaolin is a mild yet effective clay suitable for all skin types selected for its ability to absorb accumulated oil and dirt from pores without over-drying. Organic AOI matcha is prized as a high quality beverage — applied to skin, it promotes cellular regeneration and decreases sebum production making it beneficial to all skin types, particularly when weathehttps://justthegoods.net/products/limited-edition-vegan-matcha-lavender-jasmine-facial-mask-for-most-skin-typesr is hot and humid. Lavender also stimulates cellular regeneration while offering mild antibacterial support that leaves skin feeling fresh and clean. Jasmine is softening, mildly exfoliating, and promotes radiance, which is useful for all skin types, but especially great any time skin feels dull or dry and needs a boost.

This product is suitable for most skin types. It contains no essential oils, but does include a large quantity of recently dried and freshly ground lavender, so it is fragrant and thus potentially not suitable for those allergic to botanical ingredients.

There are only 6 tins available, and when they’re gone, they’re gone… until maybe next summer 😉

Find it here: https://justthegoods.net/products/limited-edition-vegan-matcha-lavender-jasmine-facial-mask-for-most-skin-types.

Product Packing Changes

When developing Just the Goods products, I carefully consider how packaging will promote both safety and affordability. Safety is reflected in my choice of heavy glass and/or BPA-free plastics; affordability comes into play by maintaining uniform bottle sizes and caps, thus limiting the range of things I need to order/ship so I can take advantage of volume-based discounts.

I recently learned the perfume bottles I’ve been using for the past few years have started to leak during shipping, especially in winter when the perfume freezes and expands while the packaging contracts and ultimately prevents effective sealing. I’ve chosen another type of perfume bottle – a more traditional vial without a roller-ball and I feel confident it will perform much better. I am in the process of switching over to those soon – please stay tuned!

I’ve also decided that it’s time to offer resealable pouches for body scrubs, which means less weight and a smaller carbon footprint for shipping, which also means lower shipping costs. The same packaging will now be used for bath salts, bath melts, and facial scrubs. I hope this decision will increase access to the body scrubs in particular, many of which have recently become EWG VERIFIED.

Upcoming Local Event

Those in Winnipeg may be interested to know that Just the Goods has been accepted to participate in Etsy Made in Canada 2016 on Saturday, September 24 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm at the same location, Neeginan Centre (181 Higgins Ave). As always, I welcome pre-orders from http://www.justthegoods.net for pick up at this event – please use the coupon code MadeinCanada2016 by September 18, and I’ll meet you there with everything you choose!

Other events for the fall/winter season will be announced as they are confirmed – follow me on social media for the news as soon as it becomes available (*Hint: One of them includes Scattered Seeds!*)

Cooking + Home Spa Stress Management Retreat

The stress relieving cooking + home spa retreat co-hosted with integrative nutrition health coach Katie Schmidt of Whole Nourishment (http://www.wholenourishment.net) in St Gallen, Switzerland at the end of May was a fantastic success! We are thrilled so many people were able to join us for a packed day of discussion, making, and eating on a holiday long weekend, and we deeply appreciate all the wonderful feedback we received. At this time I would once again like to thank Mara from Urban Earth Teas (http://www.urbanearth.ca) and Angela of Ground Soap (http://www.groundsoap.com) for their kind contributions to the participant gift bags, which were greatly enjoyed!

Katie and are I definitely interested in co-hosting another event in the future that once again combines easy to prepare foods that help our bodies thrive with home spa self-care practices that promote comfort and rest, and we’re already mulling over possible dates and/or locations. Our principal criteria involves us being on the same continent at the same time, which will be North America next July (2017).

We established this time of year is not good for an event in Winnipeg due to all of the festivals taking place… but we’re wondering, what about other cities? Katie and I are both willing to travel within Canada and/or the US … Are you interested in helping us find the perfect event space + promote the event within the area? If so, please get in touch – we’d love to chat!

Upcoming Temporary Closure

Just the Goods will be closed January 20 – February 8, 2015 for a winter vacation. Orders placed by Saturday, January 16 will be handmade and shipped by January 19. Orders placed January 17 – February 8 will be handmade beginning February 9 and shipped as quickly as possible thereafter. I don’t anticipate that I’ll have regular internet access during this absence, but I will try my best to respond to urgent messages. Thank you!

New Product

Toothpaste was among the first formulas I created for Just the Goods. More accurately, it was the second thing I ever made, shortly after shaving cream. It has become incredibly popular over the past 6.5 years, but what you might not know is that since I always strive to create new possibilities, I’ve long been considering alternatives to support a wider range of interests and preferences. One of the things I was looking at quite closely was a clay-based tooth powder, but I was unable to lock down a consistent source for the clay I had in mind. However, something else peaked my interest in the meantime: tooth oil!

Combining the popular Ayurvedic principle of oil pulling with the helpful practice of conventional tooth brushing to lift and remove plaque, this product (like Just the Goods’ alcohol-free vegan mouthwash) includes further benefit in the form of three essential oils: peppermint, which controls bacteria while also providing a pleasant taste and delivering fresh breath; clove, which is commonly used in dental care around the world to disinfect the mouth, control harmful bacteria, and relieve pain; and myrrh, which encourages healthy tissue in that it can help to heal gums and some mouth ulcers. Coconut oil is the perfect base for this tooth oil, an ingredient which itself contains lauric acid known to help reduce the presence of some bacteria, viruses, and/or fungi.

Two to four drops is all you need for your toothbrush to glide with far less abrasivity than toothpaste that contains baking soda, calcium carbonate, clay, silica and/or mica. Those seeking to avoid vegetable glycerine for any reason can also enjoy this item made without. I hope it goes without saying, this item is free from artificial preservatives, artificial flavours, sweeteners and/or colourants.

Just the Goods’ new tooth oil is available in two formats: a refillable 1 oz / 30 ml glass bottle with a dropper, and a 1 oz / 30 ml HDPE refill. Find them here: http://justthegoods.net/products/vegan-tooth-oil.

Good Shipping News for a Change… Whooo!

After 4.5 months without a properly functioning shipping calculator, I’m happy to confirm that everything is working again with deepest thanks to an amazing e-commerce technician at Canada Post who helped me pick through Shopify’s shipping app weirdness. Without his assistance, I’m pretty sure I’d still be in a pickle, which would in turn be furthering inconvenience for all of you. So, whew… what a relief!

And, I have some great news for local clients in Winnipeg, too! The base rate of $4.00 for delivery by Natural Cycle Courier now covers parcels up to 2 kg, which means you can get more for less than before! Yippee!! I’ve also increased the allowable maximum for this shipping method, which means you can use it for parcels up to 4 kg! W00t!

Just the Goods Partners with Waterfront Massage Therapy

Also in fantastic local news, I’m so happy to share that Just the Goods has partnered with Waterfront Massage Therapy to become their central provider for massage oil, lotion, body butter, and other products used for therapeutic massage that facilitates the body’s optimal healing and capacity for renewal. Visit their beautiful clinic located at 270 Waterfront Drive, Winnipeg MB, to care for your aching muscles and to reduce stress affecting both the body and mind.

Shout Outs and Reviews… Thank you!!

In case you missed it…

I am honoured to be affiliated with US-based environmental NGO, Women’s Voices for the Earth, in the context of their No Secrets Business Partners program. Upon joining, they kindly invited me to write a piece for their blog, which was published last fall. The piece summarizes my personal journey from being wrapped up in the promises of the beauty industry to learning to see right through them, and from being frustrated with the fact that I couldn’t afford healthier skin care options, to leaving my career in the arts and make those skin care options. As mentioned when I shared this link in my last newsletter, if you’ve ever been curious to know more about what I do and why, this piece tells all! I hope you find it interesting and, of course, if you have any questions or comments, please do feel welcome to post them at the blog, or write to me in person – it would be my pleasure to chat! I don't think I will ever stop being delighted by the kind interest and generous enthusiasm that so many of you keep sending my way, from all over the world 🌎 I am grateful for this opportunity to continue working in ways that intersect advocacy for kindness — to our bodies, to our earth, and to all the creatures with whom we share this space🐇 And I'm thrilled to partner with so many great people, groups and organisations – I look forward to deepening those relationships in the years to come. Thank you 💕 Today is my last day in the lab before a wee break from production and shipping — that means focusing on sleeping, eating and socialising, but also tending to necessary planning and paperwork so 2016 bounces to a great start 😉 The last local parcels are being picked up today by @naturalcyclecourier, the last parcels going out to places farther afield will be picked up by Canada Post, and I have one more order to drop off at @generationgreenwpg 🙌 I'll be back at it on January 3, so any orders placed between Dec 17 and Jan 2 will be handmade and shipped as quickly as possible starting that day. Today is my last day in the lab before a wee break from production and shipping that means focusing on sleeping, eating and socialising, but also tending to necessary planning and paperwork so 2016 bounces to a great start 😉 The last local parcels are being picked up today by Natural Cycle Courier, the last parcels going out to places farther afield will be picked up by Canada Post, and I have one more order to drop off at Generation Green at the Forks 🙌

I’ll be back at it on January 3, so any orders placed between Dec 17 and Jan 2 will be handmade and shipped as quickly as possible starting that day. But, if you’re local and need something super fast, please know you can visit: Generation Green, Neechie Niche at Neechie Commons, Tara Davis Studio Boutique , Organic PLanet , Nature Doctors, Greenwood Naturals and At the Root on Sherburn 😊

Thanks again, everyone! Whatever you’re doing during these last days of the year, I hope you find it relaxing and filled with all your favourite people 💓

Just the Goods Newsletter – Fall/Winter 2015

Upcoming events, upcoming temporary closures, new products, news from the Breast Cancer Fund’s Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, JTG in Barcelona, international shipping, and more!

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re all well have many great summer adventures in your memory, and fantastic autumn and winter plans ahead! No matter how many years pass since graduating, I always think of fall as “back to school” season, and a feeling of “getting serious” makes it way into my into my work vibe. Maybe you feel the same? Things definitely do become more busy this time of year, particularly as a range of holidays begin. So, whatever you’re up to this season, I hope it’s enjoyable!

I have so many things to share with you in this edition of my quarterly (or sometimes only thrice-annually) newsletter. Most significantly, the latest development in my relationship with US-based environmental NGO, Women’s Voices for the Earth. Upon joining them as a No Secrets business partner, I was invited to write a piece for their blog about my personal journey from being wrapped up in the promises of the beauty industry to learning to see right through them, and from being frustrated with the fact that I couldn’t afford healthier skin care options, to leaving my career in the arts and make those skin care options. If you have ever been curious to know more about what I do and why, please feel welcome to read the article here: http://www.womensvoices.org/2015 /09/28/connecting-the-dots-between-a-healthy-body-healthy-body-image-a-healthy-planet/. I hope you find it interesting and, of course, if you have any questions or comments, please do feel welcome to post them at the blog, or write to me in person – it would be my pleasure to chat!

On that note, thank as always for your awesome interest in Just the Goods – I love that you’ve given me the opportunity to handmake products you enjoy. It’s truly an honour and I look forward to keeping in touch!

With all best to you,
Milena

New Products

The two new hair care products I promised in the last newsletter are finally here!!

First, a different type of leave in conditioner that features lavender, which contributes to natural volume, while other ingredients deliver frizz-reducing benefits. It works in multiple ways: to detangle after washing, to help tame hair while blow drying, and/or to facilitate heat styling with a flat iron – just spray it lightly onto dry hair so infuse moisture and tame flyaways. Find it here: http://justthegoods.net/collections/hair-care/products/copy-of-vegan-leave-in-hair-conditioning-spray.

Next, a shine serum that also tames frizz through the silky, soft moisture of fractionated coconut oil and argan oil. I find it is best used when hair is almost dry, just before finishing with a blow dryer. It can also be applied — very lightly — to the palms of each hand to swipe away fly-aways as a finishing step on sleek hair styles. A little goes a long way! Find it here: http://justthegoods.net/collections/hair-care/products/vegan-anti-frizz-hair-serum

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics’ Anti-Aging Secrets Exposed

I’ve got a thing against anti-aging products. I don’t like the way they prey on our self-esteem, and I don’t like their unscientific and unsubstantiated claims, either. Surely that is reason enough to avoid them, but it appears some anti-aging products contain harmful ingredients that go well beyond what is to be expected as far as artificial preservatives and fragrances are concerned.

As a member of the Safe Cosmetics Business Network, I’d like to share with your a report recently published by the Breast Cancer Fund’s Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, which revealed that a toxic contaminant linked to cancer known as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) were found in anti-aging products sold by popular brands Garnier and CoverGirl. PFOA is a contaminant of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), an ingredient used to create a smooth finish on personal care products and a non-stick surface on some pots and pans.

A short version of the story is that the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics sent products created by top multinational cosmetic companies to an independent laboratory to have them tested for the presence of toxic chemicals and one third of the products tested contained PFOA, including the following three anti-aging products. Yikes! If you’d like to read the complete report titled “Anti-Aging Secrets Exposed”, please click here: http://www.safecosmetics.org/PFOA-report. To demand L’Oreal remove this ingredient from their products, please visit: http://www.safecosmetics.org/PFOA-action.

Just the Goods is [Even More Likely] Going to Barcelona… Wanna Come?

The work in progress announced in my last newsletter is slowly coming to fruition! So please keep in touch to find out more! But the quick summary is this… Katie Schmidt is a Switzerland-based Integrative Nutrition Health Coach (http://www.wholenourishment.net) who I’ve come to know over the past few years. Since we share many interests and values, we’ve decided to co-host a daytime workshop series in beautiful Barcelona on the topic of stress management, which will take place over the course of a 3-day long weekend and offer:

  • information about healthier skin and body care
  • cooking demonstrations
  • hands-on opportunities creating items to take home
  • discussions… and more!

The daily schedule will be carefully balanced to ensure participants still have a chance to enjoy other aspects of this wonderful city. So, keep your calendars open for a date in May or early June 2016 – we’re getting ready to make an announcement soon!

Technical Problems Affecting International Shipping Continue… *Sigh*

I mentioned in my previous newsletter that I’ve been experiencing problems with my shipping rate calculator since July 15. Sadly, I have no real developments to report, but at least Canada Post is working on my behalf to find a solution with my e-commerce provider, Shopify.

In the meantime — while my site is unable to calculate rates automatically and I’m using temporary solutions for orders within Canada and to the US — I kindly ask that anyone living in destinations farther away please contact me in person so I can calculate shipping manually =-) Thanks for your patience! I look forward to hearing from you!

Keep in touch!

Social media. There are so many options, but these are my favourite in order of how often I keep them up-to-date, so fell welcome to follow me here for JTG-related news and more … including a giveaway launching October 20!

Final Note

You are receiving this newsletter because — as per the conditions outlined by the Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation that came into effect July 1, 2014 — you’ve been in touch with Just the Goods in the past either by making a purchase or requesting wholesale information within the last two years, or you have chosen to remain subscribed to this quarterly newsletter rather than choosing to click the unsubscribe link at the base of each newsletter. With that said, if you would prefer to no longer receive communications from Just the Goods, please let me know and I will remove your email address immediately. And of course, you may also unsubscribe using the link below =-).

As always, thank you for your ongoing support! It is an absolute pleasure to handcraft natural skin and body care products, providing a healthier, small-scale alternative to the corporate “beauty industry”. I wouldn’t be able to do it without you!

Just the Goods Update – Summer/Fall 2015

Hello everyone,

Wherever you are in the world, I hope you’re having a beautiful summer involving lots of leisure time with great friends, delicious food, and opportunities to engage with nature!

I could hardly believe my eyes when I realized only three weeks of summer remain! With that in mind, it seemed like a good idea to prepare a newsletter that winds down vacation season, and gears up for that time of year when everyone becomes busy, busy, busy! In fact, I always think of September as the start of a new year. Perhaps this is lingering appreciation for that “back to school” feeling? In any case, I’m going to spend a portion of my remaining summer days venturing out of the lab and into the woods, so I want to be sure you’re aware of any scheduling issues that might affect your upcoming order plans 😉

Please find below details concerning my upcoming absence, but also information about events scheduled to take place in the fall and beyond. And, as always, please let me also take this opportunity to thank you very much for making Just the Goods everything that it is. I’m so happy you found me, and I look forward to keeping in touch. Please continue to enjoy!

With all best,
Milena

Upcoming Temporary Absence

I’ve convinced myself that a 10 year gap between camping trips is 10 years too long, so I’ll be joining a fabulous group of people heading out to Manitoba’s beautiful Birds Hill Park at the end of August. The trip is only 3 days, but I’d love time to gather equipment and prepare food, so I’m going to take a whole week off =-)

As such, please be aware that Just the Goods will be closed August 25 – September 1, 2015. Orders placed by August 22 will be handmade and mailed on August 25. Order placed between August 23 – September 1 will be handmade beginning on September 2 and mailed as quickly as possible thereafter. Thank you!!

New Partnerships

One of the best things about the Internet is that it helps like-minded folks come together. Over the past several months, I’ve had the honour of being approached by – or otherwise deepening my relationships with – four NGOs that do incredible work across Canada, the US, and other countries worldwide.

  • The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics Business Network is a consortium led by the Breast Cancer Fund that works to eliminate harmful chemicals from personal care products. It supports efforts to protect the health of people and the environment by shifting the cosmetics market and public policy to ensure products are truly safe. The group is concerned primarily with legislation in the United States so – as a Canadian Citizen – I am careful to not involve myself in lobbying efforts, but since these issues affect all people worldwide, I am certainly able share information.

On that note… Are you between the ages of 14 – 24, or do you know someone that is?

It’s never too early to start thinking about ways to celebrate our bodies and keep them as healthy as we can, and that includes learning about potentially harmful chemicals in skin and body care products. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics wants to help teens access this information in the best way possible, so it has launched a survey to learn more about their current experiences with skincare products. The more people participate, the more comprehensive the data will be, ultimately leading to a more useful teen-focused program. To learn more about the survey, or to participate, please visit: http://www.surveymoz.com/s/productsurvey/

  • Humane Society International works on animal protection issues around the world. HSI’s campaign to end animal testing, #BeCrueltyFree, is pleased to announce the launch of The Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act to ban cosmetics animal testing in Canada. A parallel bill has also been introduced in the US called Humane Cosmetics Act, H.R.2858. This really is wonderful news and I hope each bill passes swiftly because we all know there are many ways to end cruelty against animals including scientific modelling and/or the even more simple option of making formulas using ingredients that are already proven to be safe.

  • Just Beautiful is a pledge program organized by Environmental Defence, a Toronto-based organization that works tirelessly to inform Canadians about toxic substances in personal care products, and to encourage industry and governments to find safer alternatives. Just Beautiful aims to help people make informed decisions about the products they buy, while also reminding manufacturers and retailers that it is possible to create great products without what are referred to as “Environmental Defence’s #ToxicTen Ingredients”. Just the Goods has taken the Just Beautiful pledge because I have never — and *will never* — use any of highlighted chemicals in any of my products. Instead, I’m committed to small batch, plant based options that are handmade and delivered fresh. For more information about Environmental Defence’s efforts to educate citizens about the health and ecological risks associated with cosmetics, please click here.

  • Women’s Voices for the Earth amplifies women’s voices to eliminate the toxic chemicals that harm our health and communities because it envisions a world where women lead to create a healthy environment without toxic chemicals in our workplaces, homes, and communities. I believe strongly in these efforts, which is why I’ve co-sponsored WVE’s annual buying guide for the past two years. Being asked to join WVE’s Business Network is an incredible honor, and an invitation I accepted with great enthusiasm. Learn more about WVE here.

Just the Goods is [Probably] Going to Barcelona… Wanna Come?
This idea is a work in progress, but I’m curious to know your initial thoughts…

Katie Schmidt is a Switzerland-based Integrative Nutrition Health Coach (http://www.wholenourishment.net/) who I have come to know over the past few years. We’ve discovered that we share many interests and values and, while in conversation, it crossed our minds that we’d really enjoy working together. Katie regularly hosts nutrition, lifestyle and cooking workshops, and she was interested in the facial skin care workshop I presented at Generation Green in Winnipeg last year, so we have decided to host a workshop together!

We’re interested in hosting a daytime workshop series on the topic of stress management that will take place over the course of a 3-day long weekend. It will offer: information about healthier skin and body care, cooking demonstrations, hands-on opportunities, discussions, and maybe an elective field trip! Meeting together during the day leaves participants time to enjoy city nights at their leisure… and, what gorgeous nights they’ll be since we’re thinking of hosting this event in Barcelona in May or early June 2016. Why Barcelona? Because it’s a warm, beautiful city with a major airport hub, plentiful accommodations, effective public transit, and a growing interest in mindful vegan lifestyle choices, as well as an overall welcoming spirit.

We’re currently investigating options for studio space, so our dates are yet to be confirmed. We’ll share further information as it becomes available; but, in the meantime, please feel welcome to get in touch if you would like to know more about this!

New Products

I typically like to synchronize new product releases with quarterly newsletters, but in this case, I’ll mention that two new hair care items are on the way. First up, a different type of leave in conditioner that contains lavender and is therefore volumizing, while other ingredients offer anti-frizz benefits. This item also helps to protect hair during occasional use of a curling iron or flat iron. The second items is a shine serum that also tames frizz with deep moisture. I find it is best used when hair is almost dry, just before finishing with a hair dryer. Preliminary reviews have been great, so folks can expect to see it online soon… ideally before Etsy Made in Canada =-)

Apart from this, after extensive research and testing of many brands, http://www.justthegoods.net is now carrying an assortment of shampoos and conditioners by The Green Beaver Company because they meet my strict criteria with respect to the brand being: plant-based, vegan, certified cruelty-free, labeled with ingredient transparency in mind, independently owned, affordable, open to all genders, and *not* wrapped up with making gimmicky claims.

All products manufactured by The Green Beaver Company are Eco-Cert certified and certified vegan and cruelty-free by PETA. I’m also very happy to report that The Green Beaver Company has also taken Environmental Defence’s Just Beautiful pledge. Find available options here.

New Just the Goods Affiliate Marketing Program

I’ve been asked about affiliate marketing repeatedly over the years, and I originally wasn’t sure how I felt about the concept, but I’ve since realized that many of my favourite blogs are funded this way. I love the content people have taken time to develop, and bloggers are an awesome point of access for new information and ideas, so this actually makes great sense.

The relevant technology has also changed so much since I was first introduced to the concept! I was pleased to discover a number of interesting service providers, and I decided to sign up with Refersion which automatically generates personalized URLs for new participants and provides them with complete login credentials so they can track their own activity for maximum transparency. Cool!

If you have a blog, vlog, or any other form of active social media account, and you’d like to learn more about partnering with Just the Goods, please visit:

I look forward to hearing from you!

Website Wonkiness *Sigh*

And… just as I was applauding *some* advancements in technology, I’d like to apologize for the current absence of a properly functioning shipping calculator on my website offering all the options you’ve come to expect including add-on tracking and service level upgrade.

On July 15, the order weight calculator stopped talking to the shipping rate calculator and things went for a slide. I’ve been in touch with 6 different Shopify technicians and feel like things might finally be on the right track. I certainly hope so… but I’m still waiting for a resolution.

If you’ve been unable to select the shipping add-ons you prefer, or if you’re from a location beyond Canada and/or the United States, please get in touch and I will happily calculate shipping options for you manually. Thanks!

Let’s Keep in Touch

Social media. There sure are a lot of options, huh? I do my best to keep up with the places you like to be, but I realize that some sites/interfaces are better suited for some things than others. Here is a list of my current faves. Let’s keep in touch!

Just the Goods Spring 2015 Update

Hello!

I hope this message finds you having a fantastic day, and that you’re enjoying beautiful blue skies, wherever you might be! It’s great to be in touch with you again — as I like to do three or four times a year — because there is always so much going on with Just the Goods, and I want to be sure you don’t miss a thing!

Having said that, thank you one and all for being so patient during my extended absence in March when I combined work and play to visit ExpoWest, and to explore cities including Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle among others. I posted some pics on Instagram, so if you’re curious about where I went and (and the delicious food I ate, *lol*), please visit http://www.instagram.com/just.the.goods.

The work part of my travels involved all kinds of research, so I’ll mention that I’m close to confirming a relationship with a producer of safe, vegan, and cruelty-free, shampoo that improves upon what I am currently offering. I looked into so many options, and tried more than I can even recall at the moment. That said, choosing comes down to not only the points listed above, but also defining a reasonable intersection between quality, price, good ownership and marketing practices. In other words, all of the things you’ve come to expect from Just the Goods because, if I’m going to endorse something for your use, I want to feel sure that it’s a positive extension.

My research also helped me encounter new potential suppliers of raw materials, new approaches to labels/packaging, and maybe even shipping, too! So, all in all, it was a very productive experience and I hope to turn ideas into awesomeness before too long.

Just the Goods Turns 6!

Speaking of long… I can’t believe it, but Just the Goods will be 6 years old on May 1st! Okay, it’s true… I never seem to believe milestones like this, because I still can’t believe this is what I get to do every day. I love handmaking safer skin care products that help people break away from mass produced toxins, as well as toxic “beauty-focused” marketing, and I know I could never do it without your interest and enthusiasm. Thank you for helping Just the Goods become what it is today, and thank you for giving me opportunities to make it better and better all the time. I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without you. You’re THE BEST! Thank you! ❤

Just the Goods was Featured in the Globe and Mail

It really is the generous interest and support of Just the Goods users that keep things moving in an upward trajectory. Longtime Winnipeg-based client, Angie, kindly connected Jacob Serebrin of The Globe and Mail with me because he mentioned a series concept he was working on that would look at people who transformed their hobby into an occupation. I had a great conversation with Jacob by telephone, all the while not realizing that he was envisioning an article focused entirely on Just the Goods. So, when it was published on January 20, you can believe I was as surprised as anyone else. WOW! What an incredible honour! So greatest thanks to Jacob and Angie for this wonderful opportunity. And I’d like to thank another longtime Winnipeg-based client, Kelly Bik, for generously sharing the photos that appeared in the article. She took them a few years ago to share as part of her professional photography blog (http://kellybikphotography.com/), and they were so great to have for this purpose, as well.

The final result is really great — please feel welcome to check out “It’s not about the packaging for vegan beauty products maker” right here: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/small-business/sb-growth/day-to-day/its-not-about-the-packaging-for-vegan-beauty-products-maker/article22682668/

Just the Goods is ever so happy to be part of the Winnipeg Etsy Street Team’s upcoming Spring sale on May 2 at Palmerson Avenue (R.A. Steen Community Centre) from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is a fanatic selection of handmade and vintage vendors, as well as some great providers of delicious food and drink, so be sure to join us!

As always, you’re most welcome to pre-order for local pick up! Please visit http://www.justthegoods.net and choose anything you wish to receive in-hand by entering coupon code WESTSALEVII at checkout. The deadline for pre-ordering was April 27, but since this newsletter came out later than I had hoped, I can extend the deadline to April 28. I hope this is useful =-) Thanks and see you soon!

New Products

After months of ongoing experimentation, fueled by the promise of something even better, Just the Good’s new lip balm is finally here! I came up with innumerable possibilities over the past few years, but it was only when I made the switch from shea butter to cocoa butter that things really started to fall into place.

This new and improved vegan lip balm formula is creamier, more moisturizing, and longer lasting both on lips *and* in storage, so whereas the old formula would sometimes start to feel grainy over time, this is no longer a concern. In addition to switching from a nut-based butter to cocoa butter, I’ve also added jojoba and castor oil, both of which contribute to a new level of richness. Some may be interested to know that I’ve also removed the rosemary essential oil, which ultimately contributes to lighter, sweeter flavour. All in all, I think this is the lip balm champion I’ve been looking for, and I hope you enjoy it!

Just the Goods’ new vegan mouthwash has become a fast favourite among testers, and I honestly can’t do without it. Apart from the obvious highlights that this products contains no artificial colour/flavour, no sweeteners, no alcohol, no artificial preservatives, and no fluoride, let’s take a look at what it does include and why….

  • Aloe vera gel juice is a natural anti-fungal and antibacterial, so it helps protect sensitive tissue in the mouth by controlling harmful bacteria, which furthermore assists in the fight against tooth decay. Aloe vera gel juice is also said to assist the body in the creation of collagen, which can help to strengthen weak and swollen gums.
  • Alcohol-free witch hazel is known to help reduce pain and swelling, so it is helps to care for irritated or infected gums.
  • Baking soda can be too abrasive for daily tooth brushing, but included as part of a rinse, it can help to control bad breath, discourage plaque, and assist in the healing of gums or other sores.

This mouthwash also includes three essential oils: clove is commonly used in dental care around the world to disinfect the mouth, control harmful bacteria, and relieve pain; peppermint controls bacteria while also providing a pleasant taste and delivering fresh breath; myrrh encourages healthy tissue in that it can heal gums and some mouth ulcers.

This item is available in 235 ml / 8 oz HDPE bottles or glass bottles (when the weather is warm enough to ensure the product won’t freeze and shatter the glass). It is also available in concentrated form packed in a 25 ml / 1 oz bottle in order to reduce shipping weight and related costs – just pour it into a 235 ml / 8 bottle, fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water and shake well before each use.

This next item isn’t as much new as it is something that I would like to share more widely – an extra rich moisturizing lotion that was originally developed for someone truly lovely who shared information with me about the very uncomfortable side-effects of chemotherapy treatments. She looked into some of the lotions recommended by doctors to soothe her skin, but was unhappy to see the number of petrochemicals, drying alcohols, and artificial preservatives they contained. I was prompted to do further research into the topic and learned that squalene was a particularly popular ingredient for rapidly restoring moisture to skin. However, I was bothered to see most commercial sources were animal-based (shark liver) despite it being readily available in plant form, including argan and olive oil. So these oils, combined with soothing calendula, are featured in this extra rich moisturizing lotion, which is ultimately helpful for anyone experiencing extreme dryness, whether health and/or climate related.

This product is currently available in 118 ml / 4 oz and 235 / 8 oz bottles because I will be making each bottle to to order, rather than as part of a batch as I do for products that are ordered daily such as hand/body lotion and facial moisturizer. If it becomes very popular, I can start keeping smaller sample sizes on hand.

Also in the product category, I want to let you know that I’m dropping cornstarch from my raw materials inventory! Effective immediately, bath melts will be made with tapioca starch, and the new batches of body butter will also be made with this gluten-free alternative =-) It took a while to figure out the exact ratio but, as soon as I did, I realized it was perfect! Thanks to everyone who encouraged this change – I’m thrilled I could respond.

A final note, now that there is no longer a risk of temperatures hovering below freezing in Winnipeg, I am once again able to ship hand and body lotion in glass bottles, so the 235 ml / 8 oz option has now been restored to the website.

Let’s Keep in Touch

Social media. There sure are a lot of options, huh? I do my best to keep up with the places you like to be, but I realize that some sites/interfaces are better suited for some things than others.

  • Facebook is super fun, and just about everyone has a profile, but Facebook’s policy makes it difficult to reach each person who has liked your page unless you pay considerably to “boost” exposure. If you prefer to keep in touch by Facebook, please consider adding Just the Goods to the pages you actively follow to be sure you don’t miss anything: http://www.facebook.com/justthegoods
  • Twitter is packed with great information but, even with lists, it can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. Still, I can’t help sharing interesting articles and action items there. If you’re interested, check out @justthegoods -or-  http://www.twitter.com/justthegoods
  • Pinterest is great when I want a break to think about the food I want to eat, the gardens I’d love to see, or the dreamy architectural spaces I’d like to visit, but I can’t spend too much time there or I’ll get swept away and not get anything handmade or shipped! *Ha ha* Follow me, and the things I like, at: https://www.pinterest.com/justthegood0229/
But of all these platforms, Instagram has quickly become my favourite! I enjoy sharing a little bit of “behind the scenes” details including vegan food I’m noshing, and bits and pieces of what I’m doing while not in the lab. If images speak a thousand words, this is definitely your best place to find updates galore! Join me: @just.the.goods -or- http://www/instagram.com/just.the.goods

Just the Goods Update – Fall 2014

Hi everyone! Happy Autumn!

Temperatures are dropping in the Northern hemisphere and it’s time to pull on sweaters and boots, so I hope all of you in Australia are reveling in quite the opposite 😉 And to those of you living in places that are warm and sunny year ’round: are you looking for a roommate? *lol* But classic Canadian weather conversation aside, I hope all is well with each and everyone of you, and that you’re enjoying a new season back to school, work, etc.

I’m getting in touch today — as I like to do three or four times a year — to say hello and provide the latest news from Just the Goods. As always, I’m happy to say that there is a lot to share!

For example, JTG’s participation in Vegan Cut’s July Beauty Box was an amazing adventure! From preparing 4400 samples of hand and body lotion to watching unboxing videos and then reviews, it was an unprecedented opportunity to share Just the Goods far and wide. I loved stumbling on Instagram posts, and delighted in chatting with new people through Twitter! If you’re interested, I’ve posted links to a few of my favourite videos in the recent reviews section toward the end of this newsletter =-)

New Products

Months in the making, I’m thrilled to announce an epic collaboration with three marvelous handmakers in the form of four care packs/gift boxes lovingly assembled to nurture a variety of needs.

Each set includes artisan organic herbal tea blended by Urban Earth Teas from Powell River (British Columbia), aromatherapeutic soy wax candles by Aboriginal collective Mother Earth Essentials from Edmonton (Alberta), aromatherapeutic soap handcrafted by Wild ReLeaf from Sault Ste-Marie (Ontario), and aromatherapeutic bath melts and aromatherapeutic oil roll-ons created by yours truly 😉

image

  • Get Well offers items to boost the immune system and foster recovery from cold/flu
  • Take Care features scents and flavours to bring relaxed calm and relief from stress
  • Be Vibrant is the perfect study buddy – each item helps to clear the mind and cultivate creative focus
  • Moontime cultivates balance when experiencing PMS, mensturation and/or menopause

Click here to view each set in detail

Mother Earth Essential candles are available as individual items here and Wild ReLeaf soaps are available here. Urban Earth Teas and my new range of aromatherapeutic oils are forthcoming!

Speaking of collaborations, Kim of Winnipeg-based pickle and jam superstardom, flora & farmer, has agreed to re-issue the body butter and jam gift sets that were so popular last year =-) She is in the process of finalizing her offerings for the season, so stay tuned — we’ll have more details for you asap!

Returning to what is available now, Just the Goods now carries compostable hemp paper facial oil blotting sheets made in Japan! I realize these are more handy to have during hot, humid months, but they took quite a lil’ while longer to receive in the mail than I expected 😉 Click here for details.

And yes, I’m still working on that dry shampoo I’ve been promising 😉 Tooth powder — an alternative to toothpaste — is also oh-so-close to completion! Thanks to popular demand, beard oil will soon be available and that cuticle balm I’ve been talking about is coming along, too!

Group Shipping Now Available to Toronto and Boston; Group Shipping to Montreal has sunset

I have exciting news for everyone based in Boston Massachusetts… regional group ordering is now available to you thanks to the efforts of Laurie, who has expressed interested in coordinating for your shared region!

image

To share and thus reduce the cost of shipping, enter the coupon code “boston” at checkout and orders placed at any time throughout the month of September will be mailed as part of one big box the first week of October. This is especially handy for smaller orders, so it’s a great way to try new items or keep your cabinet well stocked =-)

Please click here for more information about regional group ordering

Also, please note that regional group ordering to Montreal has concluded at this time. After a 6 month trial period, we discovered that people overwhelmingly preferred to have their orders shipped directly. Thanks to everyone who gave the program a try! It was nice to meet so many new people through it while it lasted! And, most of all, thanks to Rebecca Woodmass for coordinating!!

The regional group shipping code “toronto” is still active =-)

Local Events – A Workshop, A Pop-Up & A Craft Sale

Fellow Winnipeggers! Remember that time I offered a DIY home spa facial mask workshop at Generation Green at The Forks and people were reeeeeally excited, and some people wanted to attend but couldn’t due to scheduling issues? Well, Sherry and I have just decided to offer it again!

I hope you’ll be able to join us on Wednesday October 1 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at 1 Forks Market Road! The last one was *SO MUCH FUN* so I’m well convinced that this one will be, too. Please contact generationgreenwpg@gmail.com to register. The cost of participation is $15.00 per person and included in that price is a custom face mask to bring home and try as your leisure =-)

As the season would have it, craft sales are back on my radar, whoo! What is particularly interesting is that I’ll be mixing things up a little this year by participating in an exciting new Etsy Pop Up shop managed by local handmade powerhouse, Kat, the talented metal smith behind Aelios Design.

The shop is called FLASH Handmade + Vintage Boutique and will be located at 438 Graham Ave, right on the corner of Graham & Vaughn, directly behind The Bay downtown. It will be open Monday – Saturday beginning on October 2 with an opening reception on October 1. Yes, it’s the same date as my workshop at Generation Green … I’ll be running over right after 😉 Please like FLASH on Facebook to find out more, or stay tuned through me via Facebook and/or Twitter.

Apart from that, I’ve confirmed that I will be participating in the R.A. Steen Fall Craft Sale at 980 Palmerston Avenue from 10 a.m – 4 p.m. on Saturday November 22.

There might be one more sale taking place on November 8, and possibly a home-based skip the mall event in December… I’ll keep you posted!

New Website Forthcoming

Following much deliberation, I’ve decided to switch from a shop on my own server to Shopify. Their new and improved approach to pricing will allow me to continue offering the lowest possible product prices while offering a number of significant advantages. For example, their credit card processing will ordering easier for anyone who has ever experienced a glitch or confusion with PayPal as my primary payment gateway. Beyond that, even their most simple templates look so much nicer than the one I had to start using when my behind the scenes tech maintenance became too cumbersome <=-).

I’m still building the new site – I’m doing a little bit each day – but don’t worry! http://www.justthegoods.net will still be my go-to URL, and I might even keep both sites running in tandem for a few months while working out any potential bugs. When I’m ready to make the new site the one and only, http://www.justthegoods.net will re-direct automatically =-)

Thanks for your patience with these behind the scenes activities, and biggest thanks to those still in touch from the days when my website was little more than a list of products and ordering was done entirely via email 😉 Wow… sometimes I can hardly believe how much has changed in 5 years!

Another part of the forthcoming care packages/gift sets have arrived!

Another very exciting part of the forthcoming care packages/gift sets is now in my hands… Conscientiously blended teas by Doctor of Natural Medicine, Mara Jones, founder of Urban Earth Teas in Powell River, British Columbia! I’ve selected four of my favourite blends from an incredible selection featuring certified organic ingredients that are either certified fair trade, or acquired from farmers directly. Whoo!! And yum!
